Developed by Microsoft Corporation, Windows operating system soon dominated the computer market, take over 90% market share. The first version of Windows is just a graphical user interface offered as an extension of MS-DOS, was released on November 20, 1985. It allows users to visually operate a virtual desktop, opens GUI windows to display the contents of folders and files with mouse clicks rather than typing commands.

The subsequent versions introduced more handy features, such as Program Manager, File Manager, and Print Manager programs, and a more dynamic interface. Microsoft also developed particularized Windows packages aimed at businesses. Microsoft added more valuable functions such as Internet Explorer, multitasking, virtual memory management, improved GUI and support for many peripheral devices when they released Windows 95 in 1995.

Nowadays, Windows operating system comes pre-loaded on most new PCs (personal computers), which helps to make it becomes the most widespread operating system in the world. Besides, Microsoft also offers operating systems for mobile devices and servers.

Microsoft’s Windows makes it possible to achieve all types of everyday tasks on your PC. For example, you can use your personal computer to make a business plan, write reports, prepare spreadsheets & slides, check your email, browse the Internet, play games and much more.
