For those of us using Outlook.com:

  1. Click on the gear icon to open Settings.
  2. Go to View all Outlook settings.
  3. Find the Layout tab.
  4. Hide the reading pane and Hide preview text by toggling the options.

New Outlook for Windows & Mac
